Eastern Market
“Historic Capitol Hill market open since 1873, Saturday morning is the golden time for the outdoor stalls and flea market”

Eastern Market
Eastern Market is a Capitol Hill institution that has been running since 1873 and still earns the Saturday morning trip.
How it works
The main building is open most days with butchers, a fishmonger, a bakery, and a deli counter that does good breakfast sandwiches. On weekends the outdoor stalls take over the surrounding area: produce, local honey, cut flowers, crafts, and a flea market that can go either way depending on the week.
Saturday morning is the sweet spot. Busy but not overwhelming, good light for the outdoor section, and everything is fully stocked. By noon it gets crowded enough that navigating becomes work.
Worth knowing
The South Hall Café inside does a proper brunch. Not a long menu, but the eggs are good and the prices are honest for what they are. Cash is easier for the outdoor vendors. Capitol South and Eastern Market Metro stops are both about a 5-minute walk.
